Short-term/Emergency Housing

The county’s inventory of emergency beds is minimal and our group has focused on ways to impact that shortage. We have been advocating for additional permanent supportive housing units so that those in emergency beds can move up along the continuum of care into more permanent housing and free up those emergency beds for others in need. Our group has been part of a broader effort lead by Joe Mills of Habitat for Humanity and his BCC long term affordable housing group that has led to the recent award by IHCDA for a tax credit project that will provide 34 additional affordable work force housing rental units, of which 7 will be for permanent supportive housing for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities for which Wellspring Center, another project partner, will provide supportive and case management services.
Future goals are to bring additional emergency beds to serve the needs of the homeless community in Morgan County.
